In order to proceed further and raise the value chain of the company, the company expanded its base by building up a strong resilient company at Vijayanagar in 1994. Upstream work was set up in Vijayanagar, located in the heartland of the high-grade iron ore belt at Toranagallu in the Bellary-Hospet area of Karnataka.

JSW a fully integrated steel plant occupies about 6075 acres of land and is located 340 kms away from Bangalore and is also well connected to the Goa and Chennai ports. The plant is also equipped with ultra modern global technologies to ensure world-class quality standards. Upstream works produces customized flat products from iron ore pellets to hot and cold rolled flat products.

JSW Steel Ltd. Upstream was the first Greenfield project to have Corex as manufacturing facility. Its sensitive approach has also lead to the development of Vijayanagar into a modern township. Enveloped by acres of green planted and maintained by JSW, Vijayanagar is prospering in leaps and bounds.
