JSW Energy CSR facilitated innovative farming techniques in Ratnagiri this year, which has yielded outstanding results.

Our agriculture program has moved from chaarshutri farming technique (four point- technique that includes a combination of the use of hybrid seeds, equidistance sowing, use of urea briquettes and optimum utilisation of paddy harvests’ waste) to ‘Saguna Rice Technique, SRT

SRT is a unique method of paddy cultivation and crop rotation that does not need ploughing, puddling and transplanting.

Advantage of Saguna Rice Technique :

1.  Farmers have confirmed that only 8 kg of seed was required for cultivating 1 acre of land using SRT as compared to 35 kg required in the traditional method

2. Labour requirement has reduced from 8 – 10 days in mud-puddling and transplantation operations to 2 days through SRT

3. Saguna Rice Technique also helps to check loss of top soil as well as decreases the methane production that occurs due to flooding and mud puddling. This allows favourable conditions for supporting the growth of earthworms in the fields which is otherwise not seen in paddy fields

In Ratnagiri, this paddy season, JSW Energy CSR facilitated SRT based cultivation in 10 villages around its plant.

101 farmers have adopted and executed SRT in their farms, covering 7 hectares of farm land. 80 percent of the farmers have reported harvest increase by almost 100 percent compared with last year's conventional paddy cropping.

These kind of progressive initiatives are increasing yield and productivity in our country's rice bowls
