Barmer Team to Rejuvenate Traditional Water Sources

JSW Energy in Barmer district of Rajasthan is working towards restoring the traditional fresh water sources by systematically rejuvenating them.

Two such water sources are Naadi and Beri. The CSR team has conducted a comprehensive study of these sources involving the local community to prepare the ground work of restoration works, which included the following:

  • Clearing the catchment area
  • Recreating the natural water channels
  • De-silting
  • Constituting water committees in villages

More than 55000 cubic metre water has been conserved by rejuvenating six Nadi of Barmer district; benefiting more than 15000 rural population by providing them access to potable drinking water. 11 Beri have also been rejuvenated benefiting four villages. These water bodies are also serving the local cattle population which is vital for rural income generation and availability of milk.

JSW's initiative is complementing the ongoing water resource management scheme by the government of Rajasthan, named 'Mukhyamantri Jal Swawlamban Yojna'.

On 8 June 2017, JSW Energy's efforts to restore the traditional water sources have won government of Rajasthan's felicitation.
