Facets of strength and agility

With the stellar performance of the Indian economy, and the Government’s renewed focus on infrastructure creation and manufacturing output, steel demand is expected to grow further. The global demand is also expected to revive gradually. JSW Steel has the following core capabilities to cater to the demand in the steel sector:

Multiple manufacturing facilities in India

We have six manufacturing facilities in India, providing us several strategic advantages, which lead to operational cost and logistical efficiencies. Our steel manufacturing facilities are located at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, Salem in Tamil Nadu and Dolvi in Maharashtra and Coated products manufacturing facilities located at Vasind, Tarapur and Kalmeshwar in Maharashtra. We are leveraging our locational advantage to increase market share strategically in the southern and western regions of India.

Diversified product profile

We have a wide offering of flat and long products. We are continuously enriching our product mix by increasing value-added special products. We have commissioned new facilities for CRCA and electrical steel products to further enrich product mix; and are continuously capturing niche markets.

Domestic market leader with strong export presence

We have attained leadership position in India and are also the largest exporter of steel products. We have export presence in over 100 countries, which includes high demand regions, such as Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the US. We are penetrating further to capture growing domestic demand with a unique marketing strategy; and a nationwide retail network of over 4,700 outlets with a footprint across 495 districts.

Strong sales and marketing platform

Our sharp focus on retail sales had led to enhanced reach and deeper penetration. We have developed three retail formats to cater to the demand of different segments - JSW Explore, JSW Shoppe and JSW Shoppe Connect. We conduct influencer programmes and retailer engagements to enhance the impact of our expanded network. Several brand building activities like 3600 brand campaign of NeoSteel has led to improved brand positioning.

Focus on operational efficiency

A diverse blend of technology, high labour productivity, and integrated operations has led to reduced product cost and time. Consequently reduced raw material cost, focus on process improvement and waste gas utilisation for power generation together have resulted in low conversion cost and operational efficiency.

Strategic expansion aided by strong project execution

Our strong project execution capabilities are backed by an experienced in-house project management team. This is supported by a cross-functional team, longterm relationship with key domestic and international suppliers, resulting in low specific investment cost.

Proven ability to acquire and turnaround assets

We have a proven track record of acquiring troubled assets and turning them around in record time by closely integrating them with our existing operations. This helps us create synergies and optimise cost. By applying our turnaround strategy at JSW Ispat’s Dolvi plant, we were able to maximise value accretion through the application of knowledge and experience.

Robust financials

We have achieved significant sales growth, despite weak economic and sluggish domestic demand in the preceding two years. Our operations showcased resilience with relatively better EBITDA margin marked by several productivity and cost improvement measures. We have maintained adequate liquidity levels owing to prearranged funding in place for capacity expansions; and a committed working capital facility. We have diverse sources of funding and have maintained strong positioning vis-à-vis industry peers.
