People’s Science Institute (PSI)

9th Earth Care Awards recognize the People’s Science Institute (PSI) for their Springshed development project across Nagaland. The project mapped the drying springs across eleven districts in Nagaland and selected one critical spring in each district based on community’s dependency on the spring, decreasing discharge over the years, and the potential for revival of spring. The project was successful in reviving these spring sheds brining respite and renewed hope to the community. The Earth Care Awards recognizes the Sadhana Deshmukh of the OORJA Sakhi & Sadhana Home Foods. She is a serial entrepreneur with a knack for scaling village enterprises. As an entrepreneur and a ‘barefoot business coach,’ Sadhana has enabled more than 1,000 women in the drought-affected district of Latur, Maharashtra, to use entrepreneurship for climbing out of poverty leading to increased household incomes by 40 to 50 percent. Her ventures have benefitted 5000 families with products that address their clean energy, health, sanitation, and food security needs.
