The journey of any great nation is intrinsically linked to the strength of its industrial foundations. This was the core belief of our founder, OP Jindal, whose vision was to forge a self-reliant India that is strong in its capacity to build and innovate.
At JSW Steel, this philosophy is not merely a part of our history; it is the blueprint for our future. Our growth from a single steel plant in 1982 to one of the world's most efficient integrated steelmakers is a story that runs parallel to the economic ascent of India itself.
The Bedrock of Modern India: Powering National Infrastructure
The scale of a nation's ambition can be measured by the quality of its infrastructure. At JSW Steel, we have had the privilege of contributing to landmark projects that are reshaping India's landscape, connecting its cities, and powering its economy. Our role extends beyond being a steel supplier. We see ourselves as a reliable partner in building the nation, providing the foundational strength for projects of national importance.
Modern urban transit and connectivity are critical to economic vitality. We have been an integral part of developing this new-age infrastructure. Our high-strength steel forms the backbone of the Delhi Metro, one of the world's most extensive urban rail networks, as well as the metro systems in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kochi. On the roads, our contribution is exemplified by the Yamuna Expressway, India's longest six-lane motorway. For this 165-kilometre project, which has drastically reduced travel time between Delhi and Agra, we supplied 22,000 metric tonnes of high-grade TMT steel, ensuring durability and safety for millions of commuters.
Efficient logistics are the arteries of a thriving economy. The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) is one of the world's largest and most ambitious infrastructure projects, designed to create high-speed, high-capacity railway corridors exclusively for freight transport. For the critical Delhi-Mumbai section of this project, we supplied 22,000 metric tonnes of TMT steel. By providing the material strength for this transformative network, we are helping to enhance India's trade efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and create a more competitive industrial ecosystem.
Our commitment to national progress is also evident in our contributions to strategic sectors like energy and aviation. JSW Steel has been used in the construction of the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station, a vital component of India's clean energy infrastructure. Furthermore, we have supplied steel for the modernisation and expansion of key aviation hubs, including the Mumbai International Airport and the Kannur International Airport.
These projects demand steel of the highest quality and reliability, and our ability to meet these stringent standards underscores our technical capabilities and our dedication to supporting every facet of India's growth.
Our corporate strategy is deeply aligned with the national vision of creating a self-reliant and globally competitive India. The ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative is a call to action that resonates with our founding principles, and we are committed to strengthening the country's domestic manufacturing capabilities.
The National Steel Policy 2017 sets an ambitious target of achieving 300 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of domestic steel production capacity. We are a key contributor to this national goal.
Through a disciplined strategy of organic and inorganic growth, we are on a path to expand our steel production capacity to 51.5 MTPA by FY 2031. This expansion not only enhances our steel production capabilities but also directly supports the government's vision for a robust and self-sufficient steel industry that can meet the nation's growing demand.
A core objective of the 'Make in India' programme is to substitute imports with high-quality, domestically manufactured goods. Through our strategic collaboration with Japan's JFE Steel, we have brought world-class technology to India, enabling the production of high-value steel products that were previously imported. This includes Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) for the automotive sector, which enables the production of lighter, safer, and more fuel-efficient vehicles, and specialised electrical steels for the energy sector.
By localising the production of steel and other critical materials, we are strengthening the domestic steel manufacturing ecosystem and conserving valuable foreign exchange.
Our sustainability goals are ambitious and aligned with India's climate commitments. We have set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, two decades ahead of the national target of 2070. Through our flagship SEED (Sustainable Energy, Environment and Decarbonisation) programme, we are investing ₹10,000 crore to reduce our specific CO₂ emission intensity by 42% by 2030 from a 2005 baseline. This proactive approach to decarbonisation demonstrates our resolve to lead the steel industry towards a low-carbon future.
"Sustainability powers JSW Steel's business vision. We realise that only by creating a sustainable future can we pave the way for our goal of a self-reliant India." - Mr. Sajjan Jindal
We believe that true national progress must be sustainable. Our business vision is powered by a deep commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, ensuring that our growth contributes positively to the planet and our communities.
At JSW Steel, our journey reflects our core belief in building the nation that built us. From the expressways that connect our people to the power plants that energise our industries, our steel is a quiet but constant presence in the story of modern India. By aligning our growth with national priorities, championing domestic steel manufacturing, and investing in a sustainable future, we are committed to our role as a partner in progress.
As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to supplying the strength, innovation, and integrity required to help realise the vision of a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India for generations to come.
