Athletes from IIS Vijaynagar make India proud with 8 Medals at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Korea

Indian athletes showcased a stellar performance at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, Korea, bagging a total of 24 medals—8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze.

Standing out in this impressive haul were the athletes from the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), Vijayanagar, who contributed 8 medals, proving once again the impact of dedicated training and world-class support.

One of the big highlights came from the 4x400m mixed relay team, featuring Vishal TK and Santhosh Kumar T, who powered India to gold with a superb time of 3:18.12.

India’s steeplechase star Avinash Mukund Sable made history despite a challenging season by bringing home India’s first gold in the 3000m in 36 years. Known for his consistency, Sable’s performance cemented his place as one of Asia’s top middle-distance runners.

In the field events, Praveen Chithravel earned silver in the Men’s Triple Jump, registering a leap of 16.90 metres, while all-rounder Tejaswin Shankar claimed silver in the decathlon while showcasing his versatility across track and field events.

The Men’s 4x400m relay team featuring Vishal TK, Jay Kumar, and Manu T S also delivered a strong performance, securing silver with a finish time of 3:03.67s, reaffirming India's rising strength in relay events.

Among the women, Parul Chaudhary stood out as one of India’s most successful athletes at the championships. She picked up two silver medals, one in the 3000m steeplechase and another in the 5000m, highlighting her stamina and tactical brilliance.

Adding to the IIS medal count was Vithya Ramraj, who fought hard to clinch a bronze in the 400m hurdles with a performance marked by grit and determination.

Together, these achievements are a testament to the high-performance environment at IIS Vijayanagar, where athletes are nurtured with precision coaching, advanced sports science, and an unwavering focus on excellence.

As India celebrates its 24-medal finish in Gumi, the 8 medals from IIS athletes stand out as a beacon of the country’s growing strength in athletics, built on a solid foundation of homegrown talent and cutting-edge infrastructure. The future of Indian track and field is not just promising — it’s already on the podium.

The 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025 Gumi were held over five days from May 27 to 31, 2025 at Gumi Stadium in Korea and its surrounding areas. This year’s championships were the largest in history, featuring over 1,193 athletes from 43 countries compared to 630 athletes in the 2023 Bangkok edition.
