The immersive coffee table book is a must-have for your book shelf

After a phenomenal response to its initial release, Songs of the River Ganga—the evocative coffee table book by renowned composer Shantanu Moitra—is back in print and available for purchase on Amazon.

Launched at the Kala Ghoda Festival 2025 by Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of the JSW Foundation, the book is an example of immersive storytelling at its best with breathtaking visuals, and soul-stirring music. It chronicles Moitra’s remarkable 3,000-kilometre cycling expedition along the sacred Ganga—from its icy origins at Gangotri to its wide embrace at Gangasagar.

The journey, inspired by Moitra’s father’s words—“To understand life and music, you must see the Ganga”—began as a dream in 2018. It took shape as a mission to find untold stories, jam with fellow musicians, and create music that mirrors the soul of India. Although delayed by the pandemic in 2020, the expedition came to life in October 2021, following the passing of Moitra’s father. What began as a tribute soon became a spiritual, musical, and cultural odyssey.

Along the way, Moitra collaborated with legendary artists like Mohit Chauhan, Bombay Jayashri, and Kaushiki Chakraborty, creating six powerful songs each reflecting the spirit of a different leg of the river’s journey. The journey later became a six-part web series and with the songs releasing on Spotify.

What Makes The Book Special?

  • A Journey in Words and Images: From mountain valleys and sacred ghats to bustling towns and quiet moments, each chapter brings the Ganga’s landscapes and lives to life through rich narrative and striking photographs.
  • Visual Masterpiece: Stunning images capture the grandeur and raw beauty of the river, its people, places of worship, towns, and cities.
  • Interactive Experience: QR codes in each chapter link readers to the travel films and the songs—making this not just a book, but a living, breathing experience.
  • Foreword by Sangita Jindal, an original poem by Gulzar, and Moitra’s deeply personal reflections add depth and emotion to every page.

In Moitra’s words, the book is “an ode to the beauty of nature—its grandeur as much as its diversity.” It is also a heartfelt tribute to resilience, connection, and the enduring spirit of India.

So whether you’re a lover of Indian music, a fan of powerful photography, or simply someone seeking inspiration from nature and real journeys, Songs of the River Ganga is a book you’ll want to revisit time and again.
