Our Salem plant’s constant efforts to transform ITI Mettur has won it an ASSOCHAM award.
As one of India’s leading steelworks, we consider it our responsibility to make the next generation, industry-ready.
With this in mind, our Salem plant began working with ITI Mettur in 2008 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Our broader aims for this initiative were to improve the ITIs’ training quality, upgrade student skills and employability, and develop a strong in-house faculty.
In recognition of our efforts, ASSOCHAM conferred its coveted Silver Trophy to ITI Mettur for being the best ITI under the PPP model. The award was presented by Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the Former Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
To begin with, we conducted a needs assessment survey in 2008 to identify major bottlenecks. This was followed up by developing a comprehensive Institute Development Plan.
Following this, we helped them introduce new courses to improve their students’ proficiency in Computers, Spoken English, 5’S’, Safety Training and more. Here are our efforts in detail.
With these, and many more initiatives, we’re confident that we can help other ITIs across the country succeed just like Mettur.
