Towards carbon-neutrality by 2050, commits to Science Based Targets

Towards Being Better Every Day

As a part of our journey towards being better every day, JSW Energy has committed to set a target to become carbon-neutral by 2050. We have committed to set a science-based target through the Science Based Targets initiative.

The Science Based Targets initiative champions science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. It is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.

JSW Energy’s commitment to the Science Based Target has been accepted and published (https://sciencebasedtargets.org/companies-taking-action/).

The aforementioned approval reflects the alignment of our targets with the Paris Agreement in order to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels to mitigate climate change.

Our commitment will not only benefit the fight against climate change but also accelerate our portfolio expansion in the direction of renewable energy. We have envisioned a brighter future for everyone and we will strive towards the same with agility and responsibility.

We are stepping up and taking charge of our actions and of their consequences with a commitment to carbon neutrality to mitigate climate change and be, what we aspire to be, better every day.

Prashant Jain, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said: “Hydro power has an important role to play in achieving India’s renewable and net-zero ambitions. Being the largest private sector operator of hydro power plants in India and having over two decades of experience of safely building and operating power projects, we continue to contribute meaningfully towards India’s hydro power and COP-26 commitments. The construction of the project is in full-swing and will be completed in a record time in India.”
