JSW's unique sanitation facility wins accolades for innovation.

We Are The Change We Seek

On 2nd October, 2018, JSW opened Mumbai’s first cleantech sanitation facility at Nariman point, Marine Drive. Built entirely in weathering steel sheets, this remarkable innovation is based on world-class vacuum technology from Norway. It reduces water consumption, offers Vacuum technology, helps in reduction of sewage and is powered by solar energy.

This unique sanitation facility was constructed as first-of-its-kind co-creation that promised to serve thousands of Mumbaikars who throng the 3.7 km-long promenade every day.

Less than six months since its installation, the facility has been recognised by the Government of India for its sustainable innovation. It makes us immensely proud that our Marine Drive Toilet project has received the highest recognition of the "Swachh City Award" by the Government of India- Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, in recognition for its innovation and best practices.

It is a proud moment for us and our partners, Samatech & NPCCA, to receive the ‘Swachh City Award’ 2019, for our hard work and dedication in keeping our city clean. This also encourages us to continue working on our sanitation mission.

Marine Drive is a place that’s close to every Mumbaikar’s heart. This toilet is a small but significant addition to the face of the promenade. We hope that this project shows the way in terms of how various stakeholders can co-create a public utility designed to improve the lives of individuals in a smart, aesthetic and sustainable manner.”

Swachh Survekshan is the world’s largest cleanliness survey, conducted by the Central Government of India. The program was started in 2016 with the objective of engendering a spirit of healthy competition among municipal corporations and urban local bodies around the issue of sanitation and cleanliness.
