Building a safe workplace with Zero Harm

Read how JSW made safety practices a prerogative to protect employees from occupational accidents

Prevention of Occupational Accidents & Diseases

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). This day marks the WHO’s founding in 1948 when the First World Health Assembly was held in Geneva. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7th April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day.

This year we would like to take this opportunity to draw attention to the subject of major importance to JSW, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS). JSW has taken various efforts and initiatives to promote healthy work environment to all its employees through focus on prevention of occupational accidents and diseases. We believe that a good OHS culture is the one in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is respected at all levels, where the employers and workers actively participate in securing a safe and healthy working environment through a system of defined rights, responsibilities and duties, and where the highest priority is accorded to the principle of prevention.

Within JSW Group, it is crucial that each day, we reinforce Health & Safety as our number one priority, focus & value - we owe it to ourselves, our co-workers and to our families. Together, we will make this Journey to ‘Zero Harm’ a success & get better every day

Mr.Sajjan Jindal, Chairman & Managing Director

To ensure best safety practices, all the manufacturing sites of JSW Steel are certified to Occupational Health & Safety Management System as per OHSAS 18001. Safety is a priority area and due to the firm resolution of JSW towards vision ‘Zero Harm’ we saw a decline in the LTIFR. Safety has also been made a Key Performance Indicator for managers to promote safety as a culture in the organization. As part of this group initiative, all JSW employees, business associates & contractors are required to comply with the newly launched "10 JSW CRITICAL SAFETY RULES" and to further explore and improve safety practices in and around shop floor. The Company has entered into a partnership with global consultant, DuPont who suggested various measures to strengthen safety practices of the company. Apart from this, we report our safety related incident to Joint Planning Committee (JPC) on a monthly basis. We also report our occupational health & safety data to World Steel Association, of which we are also a member, and also disclose this data publicly in our integrated report every year.

In the view of the Global Pandemic of COVID-19, JSW requests its employees to take precaution and keep yourself and your family safe by following the Government of India advisory.
